Hospital tours begin for refugees and migrants
At 10am, refugees and migrants from a variety of countries often meet at the Graham Street campus of GV Health to begin a tour of the facilities. These are carefully planned tours with active participation of staff from various departments and community partners.
More than 122 community members participated in hospital tours from Afghanistan, Iraq and the Democratic Republic of Congo. They visited the pharmacy, emergency department, dental, pathology, medical imaging and the Sanctuary.
The tours provide the community with key information about each department to help them improve their understanding of the health system and ability to access each area.
Case workers from Kildonan UnitingCare have noted a change in the time it takes newly arrived community members to take independent control of their health and related appointments as a result of participating in these tours.
